European Steel between Sustainability and Competitiveness: Perspectives and Strategies for the Future

Today, Carlo Beltrame is speaker in the keynote session “Europe at a Crossroads”, a high-profile round table discussion, examining the future of Europe’s steel industry, contributing our Group’s perspective on how European steelmakers can navigate this transformational period.

The European steel sector faces unprecedented challenges: policy-mandated decarbonisation costs, uncompetitive energy prices, geopolitical tensions and high interest rates are eroding European industrial competitiveness.

Meanwhile, the industry must invest billions in transforming its production processes.

During this discussion we will address the most pressing issues facing our sector, from competitive clean energy to EU measures for global competitiveness, from the impact of US tariffs to CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism), to the prospects for European demand in 2025-2026.

We believe that navigating these crossroads requires bold leadership and collaborative dialogue.

Carlo Beltrame will join industry leaders Ronald de Haan, Director Markets, Pricing & Services, Tata Steel Nederland, Stéphane Tondo, Technical Head Governmental Affairs & Climate Change, ArcelorMittal Europe, Steven Vercammen, Senior Expert, McKinsey & Company and Stanislav Zinchenko, CEO, GMK Center, moderated by Adam Smith from Kallanish Commodities who organised the event.
