Decarbonization pathways: results and strategies for a sustainable steel industry

Our 2025 report “Decarbonization pathways: strategies and insights” is now online. It presents data and concrete case studies showing how we are building an increasingly sustainable #steel industry.

In 2024 we reduced absolute emissions by 6.7% and achieved an emissions intensity of 0.52 tCO₂ per ton of finished product, renewing our ISO 14064-1 certification. Our climate targets are validated by the GSCC: 0.46 tCO₂/t by 2030 and 0.12 tCO₂/t by 2050.

The transition also relies on renewable #energy: approximately 180 GWh of hydropower in 2024 and a strong growth in photovoltaics in 2025, with new plants already in the pipeline. We also participate in EU projects, including CROSSCUT for replacing coal with secondary carbon carriers, and we are working to establish new agreements on biomethane and the Vicenza district heating network.

Our steel produced in EAF furnaces contains more than 95% recycled content. We provide EPD/FDES environmental declarations to support European construction projects, including the eco-balance according to the Swiss KBOB standard.

#Chalibria, our certified carbon neutral steel, continues to grow, strengthening its positioning thanks to the transition to ISO 14068-1: it now accounts for around 11% of Group sales, up 18% versus 2024.

The report also includes regulatory insights on CSRD/ESRS, CPR/ESPR and CBAM, as well as the recognitions we have received, including Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025 by the Financial Times.
