Architecture Biennale 2025: Towards a Future of Intelligence and Resilience
The 19th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice is much more than an event. It is a manifesto for the future, a cry of hope in the heart of a city that has been challenging the environment with intelligence and creativity for centuries.
‘Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective', the theme of this edition, is a call for radical transformation. Not just a call for AI, but an appeal to the Latin roots that connect ‘gens’ - people - with the ability to adapt, evolve, transform.
Carlo Ratti, curator of the exhibition and director of MIT's Senseable City Lab, conceived an ambitious experiment: bringing together over 750 experts from all corners of the world to rethink architecture in the face of accelerating #crisisclimate.
2024 marked a dramatic turning point: unprecedented global temperatures and extreme weather events - how can we forget the fires in Los Angeles, the floods in Valencia, the drought in Sicily? The traditional approach of climate mitigation is no longer enough.
Exhibition 2025 thus becomes an inclusive laboratory where architects, climate scientists, artists, programmers and engineers dialogue together. No longer separate disciplines, but an ecosystem of intelligences converging to find innovative solutions. The goal is no longer just to curb environmental impact, but to adapt to a rapidly changing world. The challenge is ambitious: to design buildings that are ‘as intelligent as trees’, capable of dialoguing with the environment, of breathing, transforming, regenerating. An approach that goes beyond the traditional logic of architecture as a mere building envelope, to imagine living, dynamic, interconnected spaces.
For us, producers of #steel, a material so relevant in the construction sector, this vision is a concrete responsibility, which drives us to continue on the path of low carbon footprint production.
This is why we were pleased to support the project ‘Venice Forever: from Reality to Imagination’ by
Cibic Workshop and Andrea Rinaldo, who through questions through images and a novel narrative put Venice at the centre. Venice, a city suspended between water and land, a perfect symbol of metamorphosis, a living laboratory where architecture experiments with new forms of resilience, where every project is a dialogue between civilisation and nature.
The Biennale 2025 is a point of no return, an opportunity to rethink our relationship with space, the environment, the future.
Open to the public 10 May - 23 November 2025, at the Giardini, the Arsenale and various venues in the city.
