The strategic role of scrap in sustainable steel production

At the Beltrame Group, #scrap is not just a raw material—it’s a tangible symbol of our commitment to a more sustainable #steel industry. Over 95% of the content in our finished products comes from recycling operations, both pre-consumer and post-consumer, significantly reducing the environmental footprint of our steel.

Using scrap allows us to avoid the use of virgin raw materials like iron ore, typical of the blast furnace cycle, and to power our electric arc furnaces with a circular economy mindset. This approach enables us to recover and repurpose over 90% of the waste generated, in line with our #ESG goals.

As Carlo Beltrame emphasized, “Limiting scrap exports from the EU would ensure internal supply and support greater production capacity, which is currently underutilized.”

It’s a forward-looking vision, where the demand for green steel will grow and the availability of scrap will become a strategic asset.
