An academic year for Giancarlo Beltrame: memory, vision and future

The Fondazione Studi Universitari di Vicenza has chosen to dedicate the 2024/2025 academic year to engineer Giancarlo Beltrame on the centenary of his birth, a central figure of Vicenza entrepreneurship and a man of profound culture.

A gesture that goes beyond commemoration: an invitation to reflect on the value of #knowledge, #innovation and the link with the #territory.

During the ceremony, Prof. Maurizio Rippa Bonati shared an intimate and passionate portrait of the engineer, addressed especially to those who were not fortunate enough to know him. The story emerged of a man who was able to transform every limitation into an opportunity for study, #vision and generosity.

Founder of the “International Centre for the History of Space and Time” in Brugine (PD), a refined and curious collector, Giancarlo Beltrame knew how to combine #industry and #culture, innovation and memory. His library, enriched with rare and precious works, is now a heritage shared with the city of Vicenza thanks to the generosity of his heirs who have donated a significant selection to the city.

His pioneering spirit anticipated collaborations between business and universities, promoting research as an engine of progress. And his approach to sustainability, safety and energy efficiency remains a reference for contemporary industry.

This dedication is not just a tribute: it is an invitation for the new generations to look to the future with the same curiosity and depth that guided the Engineer.

Because, as Prof. Rippa Bonati recalled, “Giancarlo Beltrame was an oak tree that knew how to be an apple tree”. The “oak tree” represents the strength, stability, and authority of the entrepreneur and man of culture. The “apple tree”, the ability to grow and bear fruit, i.e. to transmit values, knowledge and inspiration for posterity.

And indeed Giancarlo Beltrame was able to stimulate and nurture new ideas and people, leaving a living and fertile legacy.
