In the heart of the Bacchiglione River, on an artificial island created by a canal that cuts through a natural bend, stands the Colzè hydroelectric power plant in the province of Vicenza. A fascinating place, rich in history and industrial vision.
In this video, Gianmaria Zanni, Energy Director at AFV Acciaierie Beltrame, takes us on a journey through a site that marked the beginning of a pioneering path. It was engineer Antonio Beltrame, in the early 20th century, who first envisioned harnessing the hydraulic drop of the Bacchiglione to directly power his steel mill.
The plant became operational in 1937, connected via a dedicated power line to the Vicenza facility. Since then, it has undergone decades of transformation, including a major upgrade in 2010 and a remarkable recovery after the severe flood of November that same year.
Today, with an installed capacity of around 800 kW, Colzè generates approximately 3.5 million kWh of renewable energy annually—enough to power over 1,200 households. A tangible contribution to sustainability, blending tradition, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
Colzè is more than just a power plant: it is a symbol of industrial foresight, local roots, and a strong commitment to a cleaner energy future.
