Carbon Offsets

AFV Beltrame Group quantifies emissions at the mill level for Scope 1+2+3 (upstream) for steel mill, rolling mill, and upstream transports (including material transports between mills). This provides specific KPIs on CO2 emissions along the cradle-to-gate value chain for all plants.

For a portion of these emissions, which are residual compared to the reduction achieved by planned investments, Chalibria’s carbon neutrality is achieved by offsetting CO2 emissions through the purchase of carbon credits on a voluntary basis, in line with PAS2060 (Specification for the demonstration of Carbon Neutrality) certification.

AFV Beltrame Group’s commitment, through investments in the Decarbonization Plan, will enable the reduction of “cradle-to-gate” value chain emissions and consequently a decreasing purchase of carbon credits.

Voluntary carbon credits are certificates that can be purchased by companies to offset CO2 emissions generated by their activities. These credits are generated by projects that help remove or reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Only carbon credits that are verified against international standards (e.g., VCS (Verified Carbon Standard), Gold Standard) are purchased.

In the certificate certifying the carbon neutrality of Chalibria steel sent to our customers, it is stated which is the reference project for the carbon credit used for offsetting, along with the verification of carbon credit compliance issued by RINA in line with PAS2060 certification.

To date, the project that AFV Beltrame Group joins contributes to the financing of a hydroelectric plant, for green power generation, with a capacity of 98.7 MW, located along the Chorokhi River in Georgia.

The project contributes to the improvement of the environmental situation of the region and the country, as it allows to improve the air quality thus reducing the negative effects on the climate.

Finally, the plant ensures safe and secure job opportunities for the local community by contributing to the economic development of the region.
